Keratin, Japanese Thermal Straightening or Perfection. Joanna is 14 and headed to ninth grade and wanted hair that was more manageable and…. as pretty as celebrity and magazine hair. At no fault of her own, Joanna would fix today’s problem frizz with her Chi flat iron… however she was only making tomorrow’s problem fuzz with the continual breakage.
Flat iron weathering is a crazy cycle to get in. The damage is usually characterized by dry ends or flyaway hair. However, if breakage occurs, it can happen anywhere along the length of the hair and cause a shaggy or skimpy appearance to the hair. When this occured, Joanna used her Chi iron even more frequently to try to tame the broken or uneven appearance of her hair – which led to more damage.
Incredibly thick hair and a halo of fuzz were too overwhelming for Joanna to step into ninth grade with.
So after booking an appointment for some type of smoothing service, I began with a 10 minute deep conditioner. After rinsing and randomly drying… I knew that Joanna could benefit from the milder option. PERFECTION SMOOTH-OUT. If her inconsistent curl and breakage were severe we would have went with the Hapuna Keratin. If she had an overwhelming amount of curl that she constantly battled with, then the Japanese Thermal would had been her route.
Air drying is now an option. Using two and a half pumps of Wild Ginger Awapuhi Treatment Oil, Joanna can let her hair air dry with confidence.
I selected a 30 minute saturation period where the Perfection SmoothOut solution was applied, distributed and combed straight through the hair. This is some THICK hair so the “low heat” drying and the intricate ironing took about an hour and a half (no Jorge the assistant on this day) HOWEVER…. Joanna’s patience and my hard work paid off. The results were STUNNING.
